1822: July 10, 2012

This post will serve as my reflection on Jamal's sermon on the topic of the Gospel. I tried taking notes on my Bible app, and it malfunctioned (saving nothing). Thus, here we are:

"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires."
{Romans 8:1-5}

Yes, it is possible to be a good person and also be a non-Christian. However, non-Christians and Christians alike are sinners; each of us possesses a sinful nature. The difference between believers and non is that Christians have accepted Christ in their hearts as their Savior, and He has set us free from sin. The bondage that sin placed on us was taken on by Jesus and through fulfillment of the law we were set free. We are free to live without the weight of sin through Christ's salvation     His sacrifice on our behalf. Those who have not embraced the gift of Christ, however, lack access to that freedom. Therefore, they remain a slave to sin     bearing the guilt and shame of wrongdoings by means of their own human strength. Jesus came and died so that such burdens would be alleviated from our lives, and that we may enter into a relationship with Him that abounds in grace, mercy, and love. The key to obtaining this     the key to the Gospel     is faith. Our faith in Christ and in the Gospel compels us to walk righteously on the life path that God has set before us. We do not embody an upstanding demeanor for self-satisfaction or egocentrism. Rather, we live in accordance with the Gospel so that we may testify on behalf of our Lord in and throughout the world.
